We are planning out a migration on one of our legacy applications named
TMIS. Apparently, using the Virtualization Technology of Microsoft we will be
able to execute the plan successfully. Upon review of required tools to start
the process we were able to get a set except one patch, the HotFix 872952 for
Service Pack 6a for Windows NT 4. I have exhausted all means to look for a
site to download the patch but I couldn't find one. Maybe you could help me
get a copy of this patch to complete the requirement to perform the tasks. We
appreciate your support

Note that Microsoft will NOT charge you for hotfixes as long as you clearly
understand the purpose of the hotfix and seem to need it. The only reason
for their standard disclaimer which suggests they may charge you is that
some people routine call up and ask for every hotfix that has been released
for a given product, just because they want to "have everything." Other
times, people will try to get free support after the hotfix fails to solve
their problem. As long as you just want to get the hotfix download and you
understand what you're doing, it will be FREE (except for any phone call
charges from your phone company).

It is a HUGE misconception that calling PSS for a hotfix will cost money.
That's why people like Vinci spend so much effort trying to find a public
download rather than simply calling.

No, the expiration of NT 4.0 support simply means that new hotfixes will not

the hotfix your is located. Then after, they will verify if you could access
the hotfix you ask after a few minutes the URL they sent you will get close.

It's not true that they will give you a link. They told me that NT 4 was not
supported and they could not give me the Hotfix. I want to migrate my NT4
box to VS 2005 but MS won't give me a link to download the file. I called 3
times today and could not get anyone to help me. They finally said I could
speak with support if I provide them with a credit card so they can charge me
$245. I don't feel like paying $245 for a hotfix that should be free.

Just as follow-up. MS will not give out the hotfix unless you have an
extended contract with them. I talked with three people yesterday and
nobody would offer it up. I talked with two people in developer
support and they would not give it up either. Everyone at MS says that
NT 4.0 is an obsolete product (which it is, obviously) but would not
give out the free hotfix without paying them $250 first (which, I've
been told, could be refunded at their discretion).

It appears the only way to get the fix without a contract is to find it
somewhere on the internet, which, as a lot of people probably know, is
difficult, at best, to do.

If you can find the hotfix, it might be password protected. That
involves a whole 'nother problem...
