Setup for using HOST nic for network access

I have just setup R2 and created a 2003 server VM.
I have created a virtual network and attached to the host "team" adapter.

I set the ip of the vm to a free IP which is on the same network as the host,
Using the same default gateway in vm and host: 172.17.0.1
Host IP: 172.17.0.30
VM IP: 172.17.0.115

Host can ping VM - VM can ping host but nothing else on the 172.17.0.0
network can. In VMware this simple setup works with no addtional setup if you
attach the VM to the host physical adapter.

What am I missing in this config?

IntelPro team driver - it is a fairly recent version of the drivers. These
are IntelPro Gig "onboard" nics in a Dell 2850.

Anyone else using a team with VS ?

Teaming is not supported with VS. There is a KB article that details
this lack of support.

Thanks for the tip.

MS should add this to the FAQ and the on-line help for VS 2005 as the
support policy is vague and misleading in the KB I found on it. With VMware
Server supporting it out of the box makes VS look buggy and inconsistent.

I'd just like to add that teaming using Intel ProSet *can* work (I've used it
successfully numerous times on both Compaq and Dell servers), but that it can
be a bit touchy about versions (I've have mainly stuck to the v9.x and 10.x
releases). Also as stated it isn't supported by MS so you're on your own if
you have problems.
