You can then copy it to a different file or directory & create extra machines,
yes.
The problem you'll have is if you launch two virtual machines in a virtual
network. then the names will collide.

anyway; there's a program called "newsid" you'd need a new sid & change the
netbios name of the machine...

Of course if you were just worried about the name collision you could simply
rename the virtual machine after copying.

Message: If the machines are in the same network you will also need to change the
MAC address of the NIC. Otherwise they will all look like the same machine
to the networking subsystem.

Message:Is this true? I think Virtual PC takes care of that for you if you have it
set to use dynamic MACs. I know I have never manually done anything to
change MACs and I don't seem to have any duplicates (all 30 of my virtual
machines across multiple blades are attached to the same subnet)

Message: You have partly answered your own question. Dynamic MAC addresses solves
the problem in Virtual Server (but that's not available in Virtual PC).

As soon as you register a existing .vhd with a new .vmc file, also a new

Message: That's OK. As Peter pointed out in his post, even with VPC it isn't a
problem as long as you create a new virtual machine from the vhd. It is only
a problem if you try to use the same vmc again.
