As both are free downloads, you could try them both and see what one works
well for you - I'm willing to bet that for just a couple of machines for a

As for the best prodct to use I think that is objective!!! I used Virtual PC
first and I enjoyed the product, Then I used VMware ESX, GSX, VMware Server
and Workstaion. I liked all of those products. Then I used VS R2 for creating
clusters and it was a fairly nice product too. I just had more time with
VMware products, while R2 is good for free and has it's benifits I don't like
the physical to virtual conversion, way to clunky and hard to setup. They are
all excellent products and it really comes down to what you want to
accomlish. R2 I feel is better for setting up clusters and a virtual network
but when it comes to a production environment it has some performace issues
when compared to one product.
