I've had 2 windows 2000 systems that I've attempted to migrated to a virtual
state that when booting up it doesn't get past the VGA win2000 boot screen.
The progress bar goes all the way to the right then stops.
Host system processor utilization also goes to nothing.

These failing systems are whitebox AMD via chipset, both machines.
Successfull systems have been Dell Latatud Laptops (Intel Chipsets).
I've succesfuly migrated other win2k systems with the following method.
The harddrives were imaged with Ghost software withen a virtual DOS machine
booted up with Ghost. Imaged from a Link Virtual Drive to a Dynamic Virtual
Drive. This with Virtual PC, not Virtual Server. Virtual Server will not
attatch a Virtual Machine to a Linked Virtual Drive.
Using the outlined methode using VirtualServer, the duplication fails with
drive read errors. (1. create Linked Virtual Drive. 2. convert Linked Drive
to Dynamic Virtual Drive.)

Try applying the update rollup for SP4 in Windows 2000, also when you convert
have you checked the boot.ini to see what is says

Both systems were very uptodate. Both systems have SP4 and at least the first
system had everything Winupdate wanted to install.
Yes, I experimented with the boot.ini. anything amiss with it would through
an NTOSKRN corruption error as well as a couple others.
Everything seems to be ok, drive leters match before and after
vertualizing. etc.
The best I can see going wrong are core driver issues, but I can not even
get it to start in SAFEMODE.

First system I needed the hardware for a new installation (clean).
The second the hardware (mobo) went south.

Correction:

Also, this phenom occures in both VSR2 & VPC.

I created a new VM in VPC mounted a Linked drive to the original hardrive.
Same phenom, but this time I was able to boot SAFEMODE and see where it is
getting stuck. CPU driver, "amdagp.sys"
Both of these none bootable systems are AMD systems, where successfully
migrated systems were Intel. I thought I saw a resolution somewhere. I'm off
to search.
