Is it possible to upgrade images from VPC 2004 to Server R2?

I have some virtual machines under VPC 2004 and when I tried to install
Server R2 they wouldn't work any more - I just got black screens on the
VPCs when I tried booting them. I had to uninstalled VPC and server and
reinstall VPC to get them working again.

Is there any way to make these images works under server R2 or do I
need to rebuild them?

Okay probably my fault, it is now all working when I create new VMs and
re-use the VHDs. First time round I just attached the VMCs and it
didn't work.
