Virtual Server 2005 R2 - restart error

Source: microsoft.public.virtualserver
Sent: 02/17/2006
From: Scott Allen
Message:

We run...

net stop "virtual server"
net stop "virtual machine helper"

....in order to do backups of the virtual hard disk files. Our host
currently houses 2 guest OS instances of 2003 server. When we restart
virtual server after the backup is done, 1 of the 2 guest OSes refuses to
come back up on occasion, yielding these errors:

2/13/2006
8:30:10 AM Virtual Machine "VIR-SCC-001"encountered an error when attempting
to use one of its virtual hard disks.
2/13/2006
8:30:10 AM Virtual Machine The virtual hard disk
"E:\VIR-SCC-001\vir-scc-001-merged.vhd" attached to primary channel (0) of
"VIR-SCC-001" could not opened with read-write access. You need read-write
access to the virtual hard disk to boot a virtual machine. Another virtual
machine or the Virtual Disk Manager might be using this disk right now.

The VHD file in question is not read-only, and is not used by any other
process that I can see. A reboot of the host is required to bring back up
both virtual guest OSes when this does occur...

Is there another workaround to this issue where a reboot of the host is not
required?
