Determining what is up and running?

Source: microsoft.public.virtualserver

Message:

I am using a test machine to automate the installation of our product build
every night.
Every night my script will get the latest build and install it on clean
copys of multiple vm's, (as our product requires ar least three different
installations on at least three different physical machines)

Here is the code that I use to shutdown the VM, copy the saved disk over,
and then restart it...

"stop the VM here
set virtualserver = createobject("virtualserver.application")
set curvm = virtualserver.findvirtualmachine(VMName)
set CurOSint = curvm.GuestOS
set vmtask1 = CurOSint.shutdown
vmtask1.WaitForCompletion(-1)
LogMessage now() & " The Virtual Machine has been stopped", false

"restore the disk
result = Fso.copyFile(SavedfilePath, RestoreFilePath, True)
LogMessage now() & " The Virtual Machine has been restored", false

"start the VM again
set vmVar = VirtualServer.FindVirtualMachine("Win2003_VM1")
vmVar.Startup
wscript.sleep(60000)
LogMessage now() & " The Virtual Machine has been started", false

Not wanting to take for granted that the VM, and\or the Virtual Server is
up, how to determine what the statis of both the vm's, and the Virtual server?

The code above will fail if the VM is not running, and\or the virtual Server
is not running, will it not? I do not seem to be able to find any code that
related to determing whether or not the virtual server is up and running.
How much wait time should be allowed for any stop or start, before continuing
with the vbscript?

What is the properties to examine for the VM's, and, and the VS?

Thanks for any help.

Lou
