Insanely High CPU

We have 5 VMWare GSX servers and are trying to decide whether to go with ESX
or Virtual Server.

Just installed VS2005 R2 on a Windows 2003 EE server (HP DL360 -- 1 CPU
3Ghz, 2GB RAM). Yes the RAM and CPU are low but we only want to play with
one or two VM's at a time.

I am installing Windows 2003 Server on a VM from an ISO image. It has been
running for 2 hours and is only 30% complete. I realize that VM Additions
haven't been installed yet, but it doesn't take this long to install an OS
from an ISO on VMWare GSX before you install VMWare Tools on the VM.

I reviewed the performance metrics and the problem is not disk or memory,
but CPU it seems. VSRVC.EXE is using 50% CPU (100% of one thread).

Why should installing an OS from an ISO cause the host to use all available
CPU for several hours (and only one thread at that?).

Something is wrong here. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
