VS fail over on switched fabric SAN?

I would like to set up a cluster of machines, each running a single virtual
server. In the event of server failure, I would like to fail over to another
server to run the failed server's virtual server.

My question is this: I see information confirming iSCSI can do this. Is
this also possible with a switched fabric SAN? The same information hints
that it's possible, but doesn't come right out & say it.

This is fairly simple to engineer: You need to set up a standard Server 2003
cluster with two (or more nodes). Install Virtual Server onto all of the
nodes you wish to use to run virtual machines. Place the .vhd files onto
shared storage, and then register identical virtual machines on each of these
(the easiest way I find to do this is to set up one node how you want it, and
then copy and register the .vmc files to the other servers).

The VMs then run on one node at a time, being registered but not turned on
on the others. In the event of a failover of the disk resources, VB scripts
attached to the same cluster group are triggered to restart the VMs on the
new hosting node.

Server2. When the failed server is restored, failback places each VM on its
preferred node.

Well yes, this is perfectly possible; I discussed one group of VMs to
simplify the explanation. We actually run two groups of 4 VMs on each node,
with either or both groups being able to run on either node.

You can set up as many independent groups of VMs as you like (and your
hardware will support), BUT each group needs it's own storage resource (disk)
and cluster group, as clustered disks can only be accessed by one node at a
time.
