VSMT & W2K3 SP1

Previously a post was made to this newsgroup (titled VSMT Problem on 5/27/05
and included below) about the physical to virtual migration of systems
running Windows 2003 Server SP1. In the case of the previous post as well in
my own situation this error is occurring on Compaq/HP servers (in my case a
ML380 G1 and a DL380 G1). In my attempt to troubleshoot this problem, I have
not been able to reach a solution. In the previous post there was no
Microsoft-based input provided for this issue. While I hope that this is
resolved in SP1 of Virtual Server, for the time being this issue is not
resolved and would appreciate some input from Microsoft.

To the actual problem…
Using the VSMT, I have been able to capture and deploy an image of a Windows
2003 SP1 system. Once the image has been deployed, I try to start up the
system but find that it will not boot into Windows. The Windows progress bar
that usually scoots across the bottom of the screen appears and completes,
but the system hangs when this progress bar reaches the right-side of the
window.

We have done some investigating and found that the boot hangs on the
acpitabl.dat file. When this error occurs we do not have any option other
than to reboot the machine. I am able to access the Windows startup menu
(i.e. F8) but none of the options that are provided in this menu allow for
the system to boot.

Any insight as to why this error is occurring or a possible workaround is
greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have the following setup.
Win 2003 Enterprise edition, VS 2005, ADS and VSMT installed on the same
server.
DHCP are running on a separate server.

I want to make a Virtual Machine of one of my physical servers.
The Source server is running Windows 2003 SP1 on HP DL380 G3 hardware.

I have gone through all of the tasks for the source server:
GatherHW, validate the source.xml file, load system files for SP1 with
vmpatch, No errors after loading the system files, generate migration
scripts, run source_capture.cmd, run source_createvm.cmd, run
source_deployVM.cmd and everything seems to have been OK.

But when I try to start the Virtual Machine it doesn´t start, the only thing
that happens is that a progress bar is starting in the bottom and then it
stops. No error messages and the only thing to do is to shut down the
Virtual machine.
Anybody having any ideas?
Could it be some specific drivers that must be excluded for the HP DL380 G3
hardware or what?

Regards // Anders
