internet explorer closes down on VS 2005

I have virtual server 2005 RC2 on XP client. I'm tring to setup a 2 node
cluster. I keep having issues where IE keeps closing down when I try to
configure any of the virtual server nodes. I thought it was a problem with
IE8 at first as I recently installed this. After turning the compatibilty
view on it seem to go away. However I'm getting the same problem today but
only on 2 nodes. My other servers seem okay. I've tried uninstalling ie8
and going back to v7 but still same problem. I've tried using a different
browser (google chrome) and I can go into the config screen but cannot select
anything from drop down lists. I cannot find anyone reporting this problem
on the internet. Not sure if its an IE settings issue or a virtual
server/iis problem. I have all latest service packs and hot fixes installed.

I can also turn the servers on but when I click into remote control it also
closes down IE.

Can anyone help out there as its driving me mad???
