Newbie question on using Virtual Server

Message:

Hi, all,

I have a desktop, a Gateway Quad-Core machine with 6 GB of memory, and
it came with Vista 64-bit installed.

I do a ton of work with Visual Studio, SQL Server, BI stuff, etc.

I want to install MOSS and PerformancePoint Server, except that both of
those require Win Server 2003 or 2008.

I tried installing Win Server 2008 on my desktop, but on this particular
desktop I ran into all sorts of driver issues, so I restored the
original OS (Vista) back on.

What I'd like to do is this:

- run SQL Server on my host operating system (Vista)
- run Virtual Server with MOSS and PerformancePoint Server installed
- Have MOSS and PPS (on the virtual server) be able to "see" the
databases back on the host operating system.

I'm not sure if that can be done (or if it even makes sense). This is
not a production environment, it's basically on a stand-alone desktop
for development and testing and presentation purposes.

I'm trying to get both the host and guest operating systems to use as
much resources from the desktop as possible.

Any suggestions?
Thanks...
