Giving Maximum Memory to Virtual Server

I am buying a Dell R900 Virtualization Server. I placing 96 GB of memory on
it. I will be running Windows 2003 Enterprise with Virtual Server 2005.
Windows 2008 is not allowed on our network due to it not being approved (Most
MS OS's without a first Service pack are not approved)

Now inside the configuration for Virtual Server 2005 in the memory
configuration it allows for the following:

The amount of memory can be from 4 MB through 3712 MB (3503 MB is the
maximum recommended value).
Virtual machine memory (in MB): 1028

Since I will wanting to use more than 3713 MB of memory per virtual machine
what do I do (or is it only showing this since the Server only has 4 MB of
Memory)?

I mean I have 96 GB I want to use at least 1/4 of since I can have 3 host OS
according to the Windows license.

Also why is the Virtual machine memory (in MB): 1028 grayed out. Why can't
I change this?

What you are running into is a result of the difference between 32-bit and
64-bit OSes. A 32-bit system (whether on physical hardware or in a VM) is
limited to basically 4 GB of RAM. Virtual Server 2005 (any version) cannot
support 64-bit VMs; therefore, you'll never get around this issue with
32-bit VMs.

This is just another big reason to move to Hyper-V and Server 2008 ASAP.
Incidentally, Windows Server 2008 already includes Service Pack 1 (install
it and go Start, Run, WINVER (Version 6.0 [Build 6001:Service Pack 1])

It doesn't matter how much RAM your server has, it will not provide more
than the listed amount per VM. And only a single CPU core per VM.

Server 2008 is SP1. And Hyper-V is a FAR better solution than Virtual
Server.
