Help with merging differencing disks

Here we go. I have a virtual server that has a 3gb differencing disk as its
system C drive. They have run out of space, so I merged the differencing disk
to the parent, and used vhd resizer on it. I then mounted the drive to
another server, and used diskpart to extend the partition. Well i put the vhd
file back and I get a disk error. I have tried this several times. Anyone
have any experience with this? Or other ways to do it?
