no option to use "external network adapter"

Message:

I've installed VS 2005 R2 and have 2 VMs on it. One I imported from VPC
2004 and the other I created from scratch. Both are win2003 standard. On
neither VM can I set the virtual network adapter to "external network".
Only "not connected" and "internal network" appear as options. I installed
the VM additions on the VM I created from scratch. I didn't have this
problem with the original ver of VS a yr or so ago. I haven't found
anything that says what to do to enable external networking.

The host server (win2003) has functioning Intel pro 1000 NIC which are
configured in a team. Does it seem likely that's the issue? It would be
easy to test, but it doesn't seem likely to be the cause.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Thanks!
Bob
