VS 2005 R2 SP1 on x64 not working

I'm trying to set up a 64 bit VS on a x64 system. The system has dual AMD
Opteron 250s and 4gb of ram and is running Win2K3 Enterprise Edition R2.
When I create a new VS and attempt to start it, I get an error "Attempting to
load an x64 Operating System, however this CPU is not compatable with x64
mode. Please install a 32 bit x86 operating system." No errors are reported
in the VS Event viewer. Are the AMD Opteron processors not supported or is
there something else that might be causing the problem? Any advice or
assistance will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance,
