Problems with guests accessing the Internet

Hello all,

I have a ProLiant DL380 G5, EM64T server running a fully patched version of
Windows Server 2003 R2. The server has 2 NICs, but one is disabled and the
other has a static IP address. I have installed Microsoft Virtual Server R2
on the system with the default settings and installed a Windows Server 2003
Standard guest OS. The guest is configured to use the Virtual Server's
"External Network" connection, which is tied to the host's single, active
NIC. I have configured the guest OS to use another static IP address in the
same subnet as the host. From the guest, I can ping the host's IP, but I
can't ping anything else (default gateway, DNS servers, etc...). Does
anybody have any ideas as to why I can't route out from the guest?

Broadcom adapter by any chance ? I had loads of similar issues with a Dell
Poweredge 1900 that shipped with the Broadcom adapter. Had to use a boot
disk from Dell that disabled IPMI on the NIC's - check out the Broadcom web
site.

Also If I were you I'd enable the second NIC for your VM's leaving the first
for the host OS.

Ian,

Thanks for the response. It turns out that the network admin had port
security enabled on the switch. Once the switch port was reconfigured to
account for Virtual Server, the problem was resolved.
