system state restore of dc on vs2005

Hi All,

I'm not really sure if this is strictly a VS2005 question, or whether
it should be in the AD group. If this is the wrong group, please let me
know and apologies in advance.

I want to duplicate my real domain controller in a virtual machine (to
use as part of a wider pre-production environment).

My real DC is a Windows Server 2003 Dell box, running nothing apart
from AD. I took a full system state backup.

My Virtual Server is also Windows Server 2003, patched to the same
level as the real machine.

I started the virtual machine in AD restore mode and used ntbackup to
restore the system state from the real machine. Then rebooted. Thirteen
minutes later and my VM is showing a black screen, but has been
averaging 97% CPU utilisation so it seems like it is doing *something*.

Can anyone tell me if I'm going about this the right way? All I need is
my active directory on the virtual server......

TIA - Richard
