Newbie-Can"t Connect to Web

I just installed VirtualServer 2005 R2 on a Windows XP box that connects via
cable to the web. I then created a VPC and installed Windows 2003 with no
noticable problems. I can start the VPC and login to Windows 2003 but I can
not connect from this to the internet. Iin VS Admin, I have 3 virtual
networks: Extetrnal network (Intel Pro_100 VE network connection), Internal
Network, New Virtual network). I've gone through New Connection Wizard,
selecting Connect to the Internet, connect using a broadband connection that
is always on, but that did not provide connectivity. I'm sure I'm doing
something wrong, but not sure where and I can't figure it out from the Admin
Guide. Could someone please help me out?

As Steve pointed out, this really has nothing to do with Virtual Server.
You would have the same problem if you tried to install a second "real"
machine.

When you connect your original machine to the Internet via cable, you get
an Internet connection with a registered public IP address. Unless you have
made special arrangements with your ISP (we are talking more money here) you
only get one of these.

To allow other machines (physical or virtual) to share this Internet
connection you need to have software or a hardware device which allows
multiple machines to share the connection. The hardware devices are commonly
called Internet routers. They allow you to share an Internet connection
using NAT. Only this device connects directly to the cable Your machines
connect to the private side of the device and use private addresses supplied
by DHCP in the NAT device.

If you do not have such a device, your only option is to use ICS on your
XP host. ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is a cut-down version of NAT
which allows XP to share its Internet connection to other machines. (See XP
Help for details).

Exactly how you configure ICS depends on how your cable connection
works. If your cable connection uses the NIC in your host, you will need to
install a Microsoft Loopback adapter in the host to use for the private side
of your network. (On a real network you would need to install a second NIC
for this). Your vm would then connect to the virtual network linked to the
loopback adapter. The vm would get its network config from ICS and share the
host's Internet connection.

Hi.

I have the same problem, except I have a DHCP server. I can't connect to that, or even to the physical host server.

I have a virtual network bound to the physical adapter. My VM's are then connected to the VN.

I can manage and use my VM's through the VMRC, but I cannot ping anything outside the VM itself.

As the VM is not given a DHCP address it picks up aone of those self distributed addresses.

Drivers are right, there's no firewall's installed.... I'm a bit lost here. Any ideas?
