VS 2005 R2 installation cannot see physical NIC

Message:

I have installed Virtual Server 2005 R2 in a Windows XP, SP2 box. The
VS installs and functions, but the physical NIC card is invisible to
the VS. A message in the Administration Web Server indicates: "There
are no virtual network adapters connected to this virtual network."
My work demands that the VS be accessible across a network. I have
reinstalled the software several times following instructions I found
in news groups:
I have tried everything:
1. Uninstall VS
2. Reboot
3. Re-install VS
4. Reboot
5. Uninstall Virtual Machine Network Services and reinstall it from
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual server\Drivers\

All attempts were without avail.

The Master Status Screen of the Virtual server Administration website
shows the following:

3:35:13 PM Virtual Server Virtual Server could not open its emulated
Ethernet switch driver. To fix this problem, re-enable the Virtual
Server Emulated Ethernet Switch service on one or more Ethernet
adapters or reinstall Virtual Server.

When I open "New Virtual Network" Network Properties in the VS
Administration Website, I cannot see the Network adapter on physical
computer. Obviously the physical NIC is invisible to VS.

I am running Windows XP on a Dell 490 with a 3.75 Mz processors, 4 GB
of memory, and 300 MB disks. I have only one NIC with Broadcom
NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller.(Could this controller that I
understand is quite new not be supported by VS?)

I am total frustrated with this installation. Any help will be
appreciated
