HEllo

I'am back again with a question about my architecture : VS2K5 R2 enterprise
on a DEll CX300 SAN. Is there an optimized allocate size to choose when
formating a new partition on which VMs guest should run ?

I also read on vmware docs that it could be efficient to have at least 2
LUNs whith different Disks, one for OS one for DATAs, is it something which
can be applied here with VS ?

The answers to your questions are:

1. Format using the the default 'allocation unit size' works for most
people, however performace of your specific apps may be improved by tuning
this - I've not found it helps, try tools such as IOmeter or SQLIOStress

SQLIOStress...these are always useful just to benchmark base performance.

2. Keeping the VHD files on a separate disks to the OS is a great
performance benefit. You may also want to keep any particular high
performing VHD files on their own spindles/LUNs as well. When you create
the VM you get to specify where the VHD file resides.
