Problems with Virtual Server 2005

Message:

I want to create a server/client virtual environment totally separate from
our actual network for practing with DNS, DHCP, AD, etc. There should be no
communication whatsoever between the two. I've installed Server 2003
Enterprise edition on one virtual machine already and I want install XP on
the other(as the client). But first I want to set up the 2003 sever as a
Domain Controller with all the services I listed before(DNS, DHCP,AD). I've
tried to run dcpromo but to no avail. How should I assign the IP's? How do
I create my own ficticious domain so I can mess around with this stuff
without interfering with our actual network? Please advise, I'm about to
lose IT! Thanks
