DRP Problem: cannot get a real system restored within MS Virtual server environment>

Message:

Hi,

Here is my DRP test scenario:

- One W2K3 DC and one W2K member server, both installed on the real physical
machines
- tried to restore them in a Virtual server environment (so simulating
restore to a different HW)

Positive Result:
After some tweaks and tricks, got my W2K3 SP 1 DC working and was able to
log into it using my Win XP installed on the same a virtual server

Problem:
Couldn't get my W2K a member server working after restoring C$ and SS from
the real machine onto the virtual one. I'm able to boot the system when
using only the Safe mode, but couldn't get system to boot normally, neither
even with Safe with networking. I Virtual drivers installed are detected by
P&P but Virtual Server Additions and services are not started in safe mode,
so when I restart the system after detecting them, the system hangs and I'm
stuck, like Catch 22.

I tried restoring a system disk and SS of the real system with Backup Exec
as well as MS built in backups and it didn't work. Does anybody know any
specific procedure how to do this? I mean it's not clear which restore
options I should keep:
install over the existing files or restore only if the restored file are
older or always restore over the existing files?
Should I merge SS or just run it over?

I followed best recommended practices by MS (KB 249694) as well as TechNet's
"Restore from backup media" and Symantec BE (KB 236286), but couldn't get
system to boot up normally.

Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks,
