differencing disk SIZE issue?

Message:

I just have quick question about differencing disk.

In the documentation it says use differencing disk to save disk space if
doing multiple VM.

For example I install Win2000 base as parent (readonly, takes 2.0 GB)
Then I make a differencing disk called SP1 (boot install sp1 and the size is
2.3 GG afterwared)

Based on what I'm seeing this doesn't really seem like much of differencing
disk. I could have made a whole new VM with no parent for SP1 and still been
2.3 GB.

I'm guessing the reason for this is because you do differencing by files??
If parent has a copy of file ntdll.dll and a service pack change maybe 4
bytes in the whole file then I guess the differencing disk will have to store
the whole file again?? Can't you just store the 4bytes that are different?

or I'm I totally doing something wrong that is causing the differnecing
disks to be so large?

Thanks
jason
