VS2005 in XP, no access to Web Admin

The docs say that Virtual Server can be deployed in Windows XP with IIS
installed. Well, I have IIS installed, and the installation of VS 2005
completed successfully without error, the only warning being that IIS 5 in
Windows XP can only support a single website and it's setting it up as a
virtual directory. However, when I try to access the Web Administration page,
it gives me a login page, saying 'Enter username and password for "" at
http://hb64'

I entered the username/password of the Windows account I am logged into (an
Administrator on the machine, and the one who installed Virtual Server), and
it rejected the login. Tried again and again, tried every user on the
machine's login, still nothing. So it seems to me that there is no user set
with proper permissions to access the webadmin page.

If I go into IIS and enable anonymous access to that folder, I can see the
page, but it looks like this - http://happypc.ca/static/vs2005.JPG

Any suggestions as to what I can do here? Is there a registry or GP or other
configuration item that I can edit to give my administrator account proper
access?

figure out what it is and configure it correctly - either make it work with
Virtual Server or turn it off for Virtual Server.

Thanks David, your input assisted me in resolving this issue. VS is now
running and I can access the admin site from the local machine.

However, now I am running into another problem. I am now trying to access
the web admin page over the Internet, using a DNS domain name or IP address.
When I go to, for example,
http://vs.happypc.ca:6900/VirtualServer/VSWebApp.exe it:

1) does not give me any sort of login request
2) only gives the output "RFB 103.006"

It doesn't make any sense to me. Any ideas?

check for settings applied by IIS Lockdown is advisable as well, I had to
rerun IISLockdown after installing VS. (it denied me access to .exe files)

At this point, this problem is likely a networking-configuration issue,
unrelated to IIS and Virtual Server. There are many resources describing how
to do this network configuration correctly; you can ask the same question to
microsoft.public.inetserver.iis and someone may point you to them. Or you
can search for it from posts on that newsgroup.

Otherwise, I suggest contacting support personel for your specific
networking hardware to troubleshoot the output.

have nearly the same problem: Installed VS2005R2 on my WinXPProfessional.
Could work fine. Now, some days later I'm unable to login. Uninstalled and
reinstalled VS but with no change in the behavior. Studied David's to links
but couln't solve the problem.

Can you tell me your solution, please?
