We have new Virtual Machine Additions up for the Windows Vista CTP
releases. These new Additions (13.709) have performance optimizations
for Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384), Windows Vista Beta 2 June Refresh
(Build 5465) and Windows Vista Beta 2 July Refresh (Build 5472).

You can download the Additions from the Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Beta
program at http://connect.microsoft.com.

For upgrade, setup.exe complains that the Additions are alredy installed.
For uninstall, msi.exe complains about a permissions problem.

I will try to run the uninstall string under a cmd shell invoked with
'with as administrator' privileges.

Since the virtualization team is supposedly so cozy with the Windows kernel
team, would it not be possible for the kernel to be built in a way which
exposes the necessary information for Additions to adapt themselves to minor
differences? I'm thinking of something conceptually like a type library, or
some form of binary resource. The Additions could read it at runtime to
distinguish areas of code safe to run natively vs. emulated, as opposed to
having that information hard-coded in the Additions.
