Why is Virtual Server asking for authentication?

Yesterday I tried IE 7 Beta 3 on the XP machine that hosts virtual server.
Today when I try to access the Virtual Server Administration Website from the
same machine, it pops up the authentication dialog. How do I make this site
auto-authenticate the way it did before?

Had a similar problem myself after upgrading to IE7 beta 3.

I got around it by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Internet
Information Services, selecting VirtualServer under the Local Computer>Web
Sites>Default Web Site and going into properties, select the 'Directory
Security' tab and editing the anonymous access information.

That sounds right. My guess is that installing IE7 beta 3 changed the
security settings in IE, and removing it didn't change them back.

without killing security in your Virtual server, with IE7.0 beta 3 you CAN
make the logon work seamlessly: go to tools, internet options, tab security,
add the virtual server to the trusted sites . and change the security
settings (Custom settings) to that zone: there is a setting that says: User
authentication: automatically logon... if the virtual server is part of your
intranet, add it to that zone instead and select: automatically logon only
in intranet zone. for me it works great. and i have not disabled my logon on
the server and still from my local machine , it just shows the website.
