Cannot install vmadditions on Windows 2000 server

I just virtualized my Windows 2000 machine with leostream which worked fine.
Now I try to add the vmadditions but the installation fails. It goes a long
way right up to the installation with a pop-up (goes quick but I believe a
directory C:\winnt\system32). Then the wizard says "rolling back
installation" and the wizard ends that the installation has failed.

In the event viewer there is no additional information to be seen other than
" msi installation failed"

Anyone a clue what to do next?
