I have a G4 PPC 1Ghz 512M ram. Have been using VPC for years.
Following keeping my Mac up to the latest, finally through necessity I
had to go to VPC7.01 WXP - the dramas start. (I only use VPC really
for Suretrak & MSProject).

Problem: I was in windows IE on a citrix based remote server site (one
of my clients) looking at my emails (on their system) and made the
fatal mistake of trying to print before ensuring my VPC printer
settings etc were all set right. Of course the system hung with
whirling ball for over two hours. I did a forced power shutdown of my
Mac - oops.

Today I tried to get back into VPC and no go. Get a boot error
"NTLDR:Fatal error 2592 reading BOOT.INI"

Can anyone please advise how I can get Windows going again without
loosing all my Windows based software & data?

Quit Virtual PC

Navigate to your Windows image file (in Documents/Virtual PC List
folder)

Control click on the Windows file. Select "Show package contents"

There should be a file there called "savedstate.vsv"

Remove that file

Launch VPC. It will force Windows to reboot. That "may" resolve it for
you. If not, then you would need the boot from a Windows XP Cd and do a
Repair install or create a new Virtual Machine.

I tried your first method, and found the following:

Base Drive
Configuration.plist
Icon Cache (folder)
MainPackageFile
StartMenu.plist

But no savedstate.vsv

Could it be that I remove Configuration.plist or StartMenu.plist?

drives is disabled, as it is in this case).

If you have a bootable XP CD, do a repair install. If not, you will
need to create a new VM. If you have data on the old VM that you need
to retrieve, THAT is possible by mounting the basedrive file in your
new VM

instructions on your site without success. I think my problem is that
I am not getting an ISO image. How do you create that? I am using
MacOS 10.4.1 and the VPC 7 with Windows XP Pro 3 CD package.

I am beginning to think that I should have purchased the standalone VPC
and a separate WinXP package.

The easiest way I've found to make a bootable ISO file on a Mac is to use
Apple's Disk Utility in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility to rip the
physical media. While in Disk Utility you can choose File > New Image from
device (diskXsY), then save the image changing the drop-down image format
to "DVD/CD master". The default extension will be .cdr but it is really an
..iso file. You can capture the image in VPC or burn it with either
extension.
