Print server function in VPC

I have just installed a D-Link DI-824VUP Router/Print Server to give me
independent, wireless access to the interner and printers from several
Macs. The set up works fine in OS X and I can even print to "legacy"
parallel printers like a HP Laserjet 5 (the Router also has a USB
printer port - note its queue name is "lpUSB0" whereas the parallel port
is "lp"). I just needed to add the printers as IP Printers.
The Router comes with "print server" software for Windows. I installed
this in VPC6.1/Win 98SE. When I went to Add Printers in VPC the print
server came up as a new port in the list of ports. However when I tried
printing it only printed the first few lines of a page and then stopped.
Printing from OS X was also then corrupted and only fixed after
resetting the Router.
I am about to try printing from VPC to a virtual (postscript) printer on
the Mac that in turn prints to the Router but was wondering if anyone
has positive experience with print server software running under VPC?
