Hi guys,

I hope someone can help because I depend heavily on networking in
Windows 2000...

I am suddenly unable to connect to the internet in VPC 6.1.1 running
Windows 2000. I previously have been connect with no problem for a
long time; in fact, I was connected as recently as 14 hours ago, now
it's a no go.

I have a valid LAN connection and I am able to connect to the internet
in my Mac OS X 10.3.7.

I use Shared Networking in VPC settings and have never had a problem
before today. I have verified my LAN settings, and restarted both the
Virtual Machine and Actual (Mac) machine.

I hope someone has some ideas because I am stuck right now and have to
have this connection to do my job.

I DO have a wireless network at home and connect to a network via
ethernet at work, but for about 12-months I have seamlessly switched
from my home network to my work network without a single issue... I
have been running VPC 6 on my PowerBook for almost a year and once I
got it up and working correctly I NEVER changed any settings (I figure
if it ain't broken don't fix it...).

So that is why this problem perplexes me now, if it were simply an
issue of switching networks it would have manifested itself long before
now, and I would have had problems before now... I could even
understand if it were update related, but I did not update or change
any settings since the last time the connection worked (last night).
Last night I shut down normally; today started up and all of a sudden
it can not connect.

Hopefully someone can tell me why... or give me some ideas as to where
to start.

I lose my VPC connections in three situations, switching my from shared
networking to Virtusl Switch, switching the Mac from wireless to wired
or vice-versa. And moving between wireless hot spots.

For the simple case of moving between hotspots with Virtual Networking,
I usually have to force a refresh my DHCP address. I have a batch file
with the following commands:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

For switching between shared and virtual switch, I have to restart Windows.

And finally for switching wired to wireless, it is more trouble. I have
to shutdown Windows, quit VPC, restart VPC, then start Windows. It is
tricky to reboot the Mac because the VPC default is to Save State, not
Shutdown Windows. If you reboot Windows first, then reboot your Mac,
you can still be hosted because of Saved State. It is safer to shutdown
Windows first, then reboot your Mac when making changes outside of VPC.
