I am both new to computers and Mac. I am confused about the best way
to use Virtual PC7 in my situation. Which is: I am going back to
college after 30 years of construction to work towards an accounting
degree. I will need to use Access and Office 2007. I have a 2.1GHz
PowerPC G5, 700MHz, 2.5 GB RAM memory, 250 GB hard drive.

The question is - What is the best approach to using Access and Office
2007?

Example one: Use Virtual PC with XP Professional or Home and use
Access software by itself or with Office Professional 2007 which
includes Access?

Or

Example two: Install Office 2008 for Mac (which does not include
Access) when it comes out and use Virtual PC7 with stand alone Access?

Or
?
Any advise will be appreciated.

would ignore Virtual PC and get the Mac versions of Office and
FileMaker Pro.

The hiccup here is that the newest version of Windows Office uses a
different file format to the current Mac version, so you either have to
wait for the next version of Mac Office or tell people using the newer
Windows Office to Save As to an older file format before sending you
documents.

Either way, as a student you should qualify for an educational discount
on the software ... as long as you do NOT use it in a business / work
situation.

It's an awful kludgey, over-complicated application for most people's
requirements. They're usually much better off with FileMaker Pro,
either Mac OS or Windows version ... although admittedly the newer
versions of FileMaker are now becoming the same way. :o(

"Need" is more often a case of "I think I need because I don't know of
an alternative" or because "the 'expert' said to use it".

As I said in another reply in this topic, unless he does really need
Access for the course work (or something), then it would be best to not
bother with it and simply use FileMaker on the Mac and add Mac Office
to get Word and Excel.
