Is there a way to avoid additional purchase of x32-bit XP Pro version?

Message:

I have a 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 w/512 MB of RAM and just installed VPC7
w/patch update. I received a message that I was trying to install (of
course unknowingly because this is NOT a specified requirement on any
documentation) a x64 OS when I need to install a x32-bit version of XP
Pro. I have an average consumer level of computer knowledge so I am
not sure what this means nor did I know enough to avoid my mistake. In
addition, I am a student with a very limited budget and would like to
avoid purchasing a new copy of XP Pro--especially since I was only
allowed to purchase one copy at the student price and cannot exchange
it. Is there any way around this issue?

I also noticed that I people in the forum recommend more than 512 MB of
RAM to run VPC7 at an adequate speed. If I add another 512MB will that
suffice running VPC7, XP Pro and Atlas.ti (a program that recommends
512MB+ of RAM)? Are there other things I should know before going
further?

Help is greatly appreciated!!
