What shold I know B4 installing VirtualPC for MAC?

I only want to be able to run IE 7 and other windows versions of browsers on
my MAC to check web site reliability for our web site, instead of having to
commandeer a colleague's PC laptop.

I use MAC OS X.3.9, G5, 1.8, 1 gig RAM. I have Virtual PC for MAC vs 7. Now
given all I want to do with this, what should I expect re: slow performance
on my mac - only when using V PC, or at all times? Can I indeed download and
open things like IE 7? Do I have to have V PC running when I download this
kind of windows only software? What else should I know?

Well - Took about 3 hours to finally get all software installed and IE 7 to
download...now that it did, my web site plays at about 20% speed, ie, swf
files, QT videos (which don't even load). So what can I do to get this
Virtual PC to run smoothly and correctly on my mac - G5, 1 gig RAM, 1.8?

VPC for Mac provides an emulated Intel processor. Your performance is
always going to be much less than what you would get on a standard Windows
machine. There are some adjustments you can make, such as shutting down all
your Mac programs while running the Windows virtual machine, but
fundamentally the guest virtual machine cannot perform at anything like the
speed of your PPC processor.

That may work out. If you have several licenses for Windows, you can create
separate virtual machines in which you can use IE6 in one and IE7 in
another. The problem is that it costs to find out.

It would be cheaper by far to buy an eMachine for $300 or $400 and use the
free VPC for Windows to run a second copy of Windows with IE7 installed.
You would still need the second Windows license, but VPC for Windows
virtualizes the cpu, not emulates it like the PPC Mac version does, and the
speed of the guest vm is very close to the native speed of the machine. You
could do it with 512MB of ram but I recommend a little more.
