usb hd thinks it"s a network drive

In VPC7 for Mac OSX 10.3.9, when I plug my USB HD in and boot up
Windows XP, the USB HD shows up as a 'network drive' for which I have
just read-only privileges. I can't erase or add anything to the USB HD
and I can't reformat it. What I need to do is reformat the HD as a
Windows-format HD. How can I do that with VPC?
