unable to install SQL Server 2005 Express/Standard on VPC 7.0.2 PPC

Message:

Up until now, VPC has run everything I've thrown at it ( albeit running on a
lowly 1.67Ghz AlPB G4 w/1.5Gb of ram ). I was able to install VS2005
Standard, which then
prompted me to install SqlServer 2005 Standard ( I picked up a copy at the
VS2005 Launch event, but since we had VS2005 at work, I hadn't installed
that version on anything ). The issue isn't that it doesn't necessarily
doesn't install so much as that at the point during the install where the
installer tries to start the Sqlserver.exe service, the service itself is
unable to start ( throwing/logging an exception in the event logs ), and
then the installer undoes the whole process and removes all the SqlServer
files.

I tried ( just for grins to install this in a VM I have for VPC for Windows,
which was free, thank you very much ), and the actual SqlServer 2005
Standard does install there, no problems.

So I'm here hoping there's someone who's run across this, or that someone in
the MacBU sees this post and takes pity upon my plight. Help ! I'd really
like to have VPC on my Mac ( don't tell me it's slow, you're talking to
someone who only got rid of his Apple ][+'s last year ) able to run
VS2005/SqlServer 2005, so I don't have to haul around two laptops ( Yes, I
know there are MacIntel laptops out now, but not everyone's able to "just
upgrade" right away. ).

So here's a shout out ( is that what they call it these days ? ) to all
those folks in Virtual PC development land ( whoever's left, anyway ). Help
!

Marcelo R. Lopez, Jr.
