I am getting the following error message when I try to install
QuickBooks 2006. This message comes up whether or not I have Toggled
Compatibility Mode, and whether or not I am booting from a CD or
directly running the setup.exe file.

"QuickBooks Installation has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience".

Please, any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.

You cannot install QuickBooks using the auto-installer. You must
install it manuallly. Go to the Qbooks folder and doubleclick on the
setup.exe file

Thanks, however that is exactly what I tried ("directly running the
setup.exe file") with the same error message. Any other ways to
manually run this file?

I was having the same issue installing Pro 2006 in VPC 5 w/ Win2K. I found that if you run setup.exe from within the D:/QBooks/ folder, it installs something called MDAC and then continues on into the rest of the setup. The setup.exe in the root folder of the disk never worked, drwtsn32 error log showed a FAULT 00401af5 50.
