I purchased vpc7 upgrade, installed it, ran it a couple of times with windows
98, then attempted to upgrade to windowsXPpro. In the process, which I have
repeated many times, in different variations, my WindowsOS has become
corrupted. Some files are missing.

When I am asked for the original disk for windowsOS previous to the xp
upgrade, I have the CD that Win98 came on, which is the Connectix "VPC5
Includes W98", but this is not recognized as a Windows OS disk.

All attempts lead to the same deadends. Any ideas?

You need to install VPC5 with Windows. Then import Windows into VPC7.
After that, upgrade Windows to XP

I'm hung again.
I've uninstalled and deleted all VPC programs I can find.

I'm in the installer program loading VPC5 w. Win98: It installed vpc
ok, I think, maybe all of the windows files. Now it's asking me to
authenticate, but won't accept either my administrator name or the
"administrator short name" user account name (both of which I checked
in the system preferences/accounts) and/or my administrator password.
