Using USB memory stick on VPC

Message:

I have an iMac G5 with OSX 10.4.4 and with VPC and Windows XP Professional
installed. I am having great problems getting the Windows environment to
read the USB stick. I can copy files onto it and off it from my old Windows
98 PC, I can put it in the Mac and read, copy and transfer files back on and
off it to the Mac environment, but the Windows environment just will not
accept even a simple test text file.

It's a SanDisk cruzer micro, 256MB. The routine I have been going through
is: I eject the USB stick from the Mac, I start VPC and Windows, I enable the
USB stick (which shows in the list of PC Settings in the VPC menu (sometimes
I have tried enabling it before starting up Windows). The device then
(usually) shows up in "My Computer", and any files on it also show up.
However, I cannot open them or copy them to My Documents. Occasionally the
device does not show up immediately, but appears a little later.

I have temporarily got round the problem by copying any files to the Mac
Documents folder, then dragging them onto the desktop and then back into My
Documents in Windows. However, I really want to use the memory stick to save
some backups from within Windows.

I have looked on SanDisk's web site but not found an answer. Has anyone any
advice? I am a new Mac user so there may be something vital staring me in
the face (well, it's obviously not staring me in the face!).
