I have VPC on an iMac G5 with Windows XP Professional. Being new to a Mac,
to the concept of VPC, and even to XP (!) I am not sure if I am doing the
right thing now when I start up and shut down. VPC is in my dock
permanently, as is the Windows Start Menu. Whenever I want to use it, I
select VPC, then PC Start Up from the VPC menu, then wait ages for it to
load. Sometimes I select the Start Menu to go straight to a particular
program, but that still goes through the same process of course. Is it
better to keep Windows in the dock so that it doesn't have to load every
time? On my old PC, I always understood that you should shut down and reboot
every day to help Windows disentangle itself.

When I shut down, at present I go to VPC -- PC -- Shut Down. Again, is that
the best practice?

of your Windows sys and be ready to resume quickly after the next VPC
launch. Especially helpful if you are in the middle of a W XP project
and want to restart where you left off. Con: W Xp cannot clear out its
temp files, etc... This is the SAME as leaving your PC hardware on till
you need it again.

2) Shut down is best if you use "Quit VPC" and click on "Shut down
Windows".,,, OR use the
Windows START button (lower left corner) and select "Shut Down"

I use the latter all the time as that mimics what others do on PC HW
when finished: Bring Windows down "gently" and turn off the HW.

Also on some systems, the use of a Windows "RESTART" selection *may*
make the Windows start up to "loop" over & over. This may be only for
VPC 6.1.1... I don't know about VPC 7.0.2.
If in doubt, use option 2 above then manually restart VPC plus your
Windows sys.
