looping start after update

Message:

after i downloaded microsoft update, W2K Pro ( VPC 6 / G4 PowerBook /
OSX 10.4.4) starts up over and over.

i followed the advice of earlier threads on this forum to restart the
mac. that worked -- temporarily.
after i restart the mac, W2K starts. but if i restart W2K again, it
loops. i've found that if i save and close vpc during the loop, W2K
will start when i open vpc again.

if uninstall the Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4, my startup
problems go away. but since the update interacts with other hotfixes
(according to a warning message that appears during the uninstall), i'm
wondering if there's just one element of all this that's causing the
problem.

thanks.
