virtual pc performance issues on powerbook 1.67 w/ 1.5 GB RAM

I've searched through the newsgroup here and tried several of the
things listed, but am still having performance issues with virtual pc
7.02 running windows xp pro SP2. I am running this on a powerbook G4
1.67 Ghz with 1.5 GB RAM and 128MB VRAM and lots of hard disk space
left. I have turned off MMX support, cranked down the VPC memory to
192 MB and the VRAM to 4 MB, done everything I can think of to speed up
windows by having no background, classic windows, etc. max perf
settings, no recovery files, not running anything else in either
windows or on the mac side, and I still get a reported speed in the
properties settings of my computer of a 686 at 295 Mhz. Now I know I
should not believe the report, but the VPC feels slower than the 700
Mhz PIII Dell laptop that I have that is almost 6 years old, with the
same memory, video ram, etc. I need VPC to run something called
centra, which is a remote conferencing program so that I can attend a
college class via remote. It requires XP or W2K and 128 MB of ram and
at least a 350 Mhz machine. The audio garbles, and the app lags when
running, either when I am conferenced, or when it is playing back a
recorded file. While I have read lots of audio problems on this site,
I am thinking that my problem is that the perf is just too bad to run
the app, and from what I have read on the newsgroup people with smaller
systems than mine are getting better performance. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris
