SQL Server 2005 Express edition does not fully install on a Windows XP
VPC7 for Mac VM. I have even tried to install it on a clean install of
Windows XP SP2 without any luck. Additionally, I've attempted various
advanced option configurations in the setup process. The install
process appears to work just fine until the very end when the setup
process attempts to start one of the services it has installed. The
service fails to start, and the only option is to roll-back the
installation.

Is this behaviour due to a bug in Virtual PC 7? If so, are there any
plans to address this issue soon?

Just for your information,
I tried with SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on Windows XP SP2, and
also on Windows 2003 server standard. Also I tried with the SQL Server
Express version(?) within the Visual Studio 2005 package on Windows XP SP2.
I ended up with strange error and the same situation as you descrived,
and still no luck.

I also posted this questino on microsoft.public.sqlserver.server
with the subject "SQL2005Dev, can't install." on 1/7/2005.
It didn't resolve any problem.

If you find the solution and post it here, I'd appreciate it very much.
