Installing VirtualPC problems (hal.dll)

Hi,

I've searched/read the past messages in this group on my problem, which
I think is almost the
same as others...but I can't quite get this to work.

I'm attempting a new install of VirtualPC for Mac V7.0 with WindowsXP
Pro, on a new
Powermac G5, OS X 10.4.3.

Where I'm at now: Virtual PC is installed, and I've done the 7.0.2
update. I've installed Win XP. When XP tries to run, I get the
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install the above
file" message. Hitting return and trying different choices from the F8
menu gives the same result.

I saw one post on here awhile ago, talking about how the solution would
be to boot from the
Windows CD, and repair. I'm a bit lost on this one...I don't have much
experience with Macs.

Where I've been: I've deleted and re-installed both VPC and XP several
times over, trying
different sequences of actions. I've used different installation CD's
(I have 4 different (purchased)
copies of VPC+XP). After one attempt, I got a different error message
when XP started
up, but I can't recall exactly what it was. After a different attempt,
the XP window just sat
there forever. But this hal.dll situation is the one that is happening
most often.

Would appreciate any help, or links to explicit instructions for how to
either fix this, or start
from scratch (I have no data to worry about saving).

Thanks
