USB to serial converter for soaring software

Message:

Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm running VPC 6.0 on a PB 17 (1 Ghz, 1 GB RAM), with Windows 2000 Pro.
I need to run some specialized soaring (sailplane) instrument
updating/downloading software, and it all requires communication via a
serial port.
I'm using a Keyspan USB-to-serial adapter, which VPC seems to recognize. It
certainly works on the Mac side. I turned it on in settings before a Windows
restart. But the documentation with the software says that I must "configure
the adapter's serial port in the range of COM1 to COM8."
How do I do that?
Thanks,
Bullwinkle
