Hi,

I tried to install Linux within Windows Virtual PC. openSUSE 11.1
successfully runs through most of the installation, but after the first
reboot, I get a black screen. Ubuntu 9.0.4 stops already after the first
screen, when I select the menu item "Install". Officially Linux isn't a
supported guest of Windows Virtual PC, but for the predecessor "Microsoft
Virtual PC 2007" people reported success anyway. I tried in vain the
workaround "noreplace-paravirt i8042.noloop clock=pit".

Does anyone have experiences with Linux guests in Windows Virtual PC? I'm
interested in success reports which help me to find the required workarounds
as well as failure reports to verify that it really doesn't work.

If you really want Linux virtualized I recommend that you go to VMWare
Player3 instead. It is fully compatible with Linux distros and does
not need the tweaks necessary with VPC.
And as an added bonus there are ready-made installations you can
download too. They are called "virtual appliances" and you can find
most distros here and also Sun Solaris.

If you have VPC guests they can also be imported and used in Player3
so you can use the same virtualization product also for these.
