Having trouble connecting two VMs within host OS

Hi

I'm currently running XP SP2 as my host OS, and for academic reasons I have
created two VMs using Virtual PC 2007, and installed Server 2008 on both of
them. VM names are Dcsrv1 and Boston.

Dcsrv1 can connect and share information with the host OS, Boston cannot
connect to Boston and host OS, and LAN stays in the disconnected state - not
disabled. I want both VMs to connect to each other and the host OS.

My host PC has one NIC, and I recently enable the MS Loopback adapter to see
if this might help. I've tried using both static and DHCP to configure my IP
addresses, no joy. None of the network options available within VPC allow
Boston to connect to both Dcsrv1 and my host OS.

You mean the machine cannot even ping itself...?

1) Make sure both machines' virtual NICs are pointing at your host's
physical NIC

2) Add both virtual machines into the same workgroup / domain as the host
machine - not absolutely necessary, but makes networking a lot easier...

a connection with the host OS.

I've been trying all sorts of combinations to get my network to work, the
Host can communicate with Dcsrv1, but not Boston.

Is there a config that I'm missing when setting up Boston...any suggestions
will be welcome.

Are you ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you're pointing Boston's NIC at your host's
NIC? In my main host machine, I have two NICS but only one of them is
connected to the network. I have occasionally created a new virtual machine
and pointed its emulated NIC at the host's disconnected NIC... Even if go
into the host's Control Panel and disable its disconnected NIC, VPC still
shows it in virtual machines' NIC settings...

Might there be an IP conflict? Unlikely, as you'd almost certainly have seen
a message warning you of it. Nevertheless, if you shut down (not log out or
save state but shut down) both virtual machines, reboot the host and then
start up Boston BUT DO NOT start up Dcsrv1, does Boston connect...?
