Virtual Image continuosly restarting

I'm experiencing something strange.

I have a *.vhd file of Windows XP SP2, created on Virtual PC 2007 SP1 and
I've backed up the .vhd file for other reasons.

Recently, I deleted my currently working .vhd file and restored the .vhd
file from my backup, by choosing 'Use default settings to create a viurtual
machine' from the New option of Virtual PC menu. Afterwards, I booted my .vhd
image. And there starts all the issues.

The .vhd image boots succesfully to desktop. After few minutes (2-3 minutes
approx) my .vhd images re-bootes automatically. This process is repeating.

As a first step, I booted my .vhd image to Safe-Mode, where its not showing
any problem. I disabled all the services and startup items and again boot
normally to my desktop, where its getting restarted after 2-3 minutes.

BTW, I'm using Win7 RC. I tested the same .vhd file on my Windows XP SP2
machine (which is dual booted with Win7 RC). I'm getting the same restarting
problem there also.

Hope this makes some sense.

Any ideas why my .vhd image is continuosly restarting?
Is there any solution, other than re-creating the .vhd image?

I'd also go to the Control panel -> system -> Advanced system settings
-> Startup and Recovery settings - Uncheck "Automatically restart".
Next time it crashes, instead of rebooting it'll show a BSOD screen
with an error message on the top. Copy that down and them maybe we
can figure out what the problem is.

The next thing I'd try is running a chkdsk, either booting the VM from
an install disk, or setting it to run on next reboot. (with the /f
option)

BTW, I'd run checkdisk on my c:\. This took me to another strange thing
effect. Now, checkdisk will be automatically triggered everytime my .vhd
restarts, even if a successful checkdisk has been performed.

A stop 0x00000051 is a nasty one, it's registry corruption.

There's a couple things to try, the first is easy and it may work --
when booting the VM, press F8 when the OS starts booting up to get to
the boot menu and select "Last Known Good" and follow the prompts from
there.

If that doesn't work it's tougher. Try this for creating a new user
profile for the one you normally log in to when booting:

If that doesn't work, you might have to recreate the VM altogether.
(make sure and keep the original .VHD file so you can attach it to
your new VM and copy off the files you need.)
