LPT1 printer..is it possible?

Message:

Host XP SP3...Guests VISTA Ultimate & WIN95

I have a Canon LBP-810 Laser printer installed on the host using
parallel (LPT1) connection and working normally under XP.

I am trying to configure the same printer on the above two guests but
both give the same problem.

I have installed the correct drivers for each guest and both are
correctly recognised and installed and reported correctly in the list of
printers.
Unfortunately neither will print a test page nor anything else come to
that.
I have received a message: "Printer not responding" or "Incorrect
printer" or just nothing.
I have tried changing every option I can find...RAW/EMF...Share/Not
share...local/network...Direct/Spool...timeout time...etc..etc. but to
no avail.

The VPC Settings are correct too, with LPT1 enabled.

Is this something I should be able to do?

Any feedback gratefully received.
regards
